Not at all. The big difference between the two is that Jonathan's has die struck PoW plumes whereas mine is die cast and marked. I'll stick on a few more for pattern comparison.

I have a die cast DHIY by Jennens & Co.... washed gilt. Officers felt cap badge with security chain loop. The braised on scroll (pre gilt wash) is die stamped.

Griff,

has this been cast using a Jennens badge as a former for the mould rather than made by Jennens?

I think its a genuine factory piece... the main badge is two part, the die stamped scroll has been braised to the cast POWFs. The Pin & clasp and security loop fitted and then all gilt washed. Yes... I would accept that it may be the "cheaper" end of J&Co's production process..... but it is a field badge after all ..... not a dress SP/G version (see below).

Default Various Manufacturers

Here's what I have for comparison of the various manufacturers.
1898 Pattern badge
1. Unmarked Jennens with 'S' stamp on rear. I don't have an 1898 marked example but the PoW plumes and crown are exact matches for maker marked 1920 pattern badges by Jennes.
2. Rear of above.
3. Maker marked Gaunt, London example stamped silver on rear.
4. Rear of above.
5. Maker marked Gaunt, London examples.
6. Rear of above.
7. Unmarked three blade examples but identical to Gaunt pattern.
8. Rear of above.
9. Unmarked two blade examples but identical to Gaunt pattern. Blackened one is 7th Batt'n.
10. Rear of above.
11. Some collars with one Jennens example and a blackened 7th Batt'n.
12. Rear of above.

Griff,
Both the s&g badges in 1. of post 13 are Jennens examples although not marked as they are identical to the two OSD examples shown next which are marked. There is no mistaking who made what when they are all compared each with one another.
