You can usually tell by the fittings to the rear.
Most of the ones I have and ones that I have seen have typical fittings to badges produced in Egyptian bazaars during WWII |

With the fall of Crete, the remnants of the Greek Army were evacuated to Egypt and reformed initially into 3 Brigades, equipped with British uniforms, weapons and webbing and locally manufactured bcap badges.

so the egyptians would have had the infrastructure then to be able to produce thousands of units relatively quickly . i assumed the bulk may have been done in london with replacement made locally.
