Default SUB FORUMS

Hi all,

When you look at how many total threads OZ has posted, we are not far behind, therefore is it not time that we could expand a little into sub forums? It makes for easier reference and I dont like being the poor relations somewhere at the bottom!

Can anyone suggest a few basic subjects?
Obviously, Cavalry, inc LH & MR; Infantry; Corps not inc Infantry.

Food for thought.

regards,

Iain

Hi Iain, well I would say to split South Africa from Rhodesia and Nyasaland would be a good starting point. Spliting down to corps etc. may be tricky as many units changed designation over the years some were infantry then artillery or armoured etc. and back again. You will need to ask Mike to look at it. Regards Andrew

Ditto to our own SA section

Sub sections would also be great, even if it was just broken down into Army, Navy and Air Force!

Rhodesia should also be on it's own and there could then be one for the "Rest of Africa"

Hi Andrew,

you're quite right, I didnt think about how some units designation were changed, but having said that, (for example,) a unit that may have been mounted, evolved to armoured and then became Infantry didnt change the regimental title so we could work on the name alone.

regards,

Iain

Hi Brian,

I would personally like to see Army broken down a little more but agree with you and Andrew that Rhodesia should be separate and "rest of Africa" is a good idea.
A general section would be good and perhaps the section for "photographs" as the others have.

regards,

Iain

Default Update on subforums

Hi all,

Mike has agreed in principle to expand the SA section with subforums. We need to decide which ones we want but Mike does also say he wouldn't too many. If you look at the Australian section, you'll see some are little used.
The common ones are:

General
Light Horse & armoured
Infantry
Other Corps
Photographs

What do other SA forum members feel about this?

regards,

Iain

Hi Iain, I would go with Brian and say we could have army, navy, air force and police(The SA Police having always been active as a military unit since the 1800's). For me that would be enough. Regards Andrew

Andrew

Sounds great, my apologies for leaving out the police, yes, they have been very active in the military.

Hi Andrew, Brian,

I have no problem with your suggestion except perhaps, should we not lump Navy and Air Force together as I dont think there will be too many threads?
Also, I would like the "general" subforum still.

We should let it run for a few days to see if any other members have some input.

regards,

Iain

Guys how about the following subforums:

General
Army
Navy
Airforce
SAP
Photographs

These six should surely cover all the boundaries without getting bloated and will keep the topics/subforums focused? Having a "General" subforum is great as it can cover all the other areas not specific to the "main subforums" i.e. fakes, makers etc

This is four less than Australia, however it will be more focused.

Please feel free to comment/criticize.

Regards
Brian

Very funny John

Brian,

you will have to approach Mike if you want a Rhodesia section. I think he may have taken it out to be covered under "All other Colonial badges," but may also be waiting for reaction.

I'm happy with the 6 subforums proposed.

regards

Iain

I just looked at it again. I think that SAP should just read police. This will include all the police prior to the Union of SA as well. Regards Andrew
