Kevin,
that's the beauty of the hobby, or one of the annoying aspects!

Just when you think you have a set, another variation crops up!

Happy Father's Day! (Hope the kids bought you all badges )

Andy

Andy,
I knew about variations to the 1st & 2nd, but not this one.
Sadly no badges for fathers' day.
Hwyl,
Kevin

Default 2nd Glamorgan Rifle Volunteer Corps

Recently managed to acquire this Officer's helmet plate to The Welsh, 2nd Glamorgan Rifle Volunteer Corps to go with my other ranks example. This was a relatively short lived pattern as they were required to wear the 3rd V B Welsh pattern from 1888 or so if I recall correctly. Thought I'd show them after I cleaned the new arrival and before I decide whether or not to pass on the ORs pattern.

Default 1st Welsh VB Glengarry Badge

Just picked up the 1st (Pembs & Carms) VB badge to add to the collection.
Does anyone have a 3rd Glam glengarry badge they could show? I’m presuming that it follows the pattern of the helmet plate but have never seen one to know for sure.
Hwyl,
Kevin

Default Officer's Silver Cap Badges

A couple of recent pick ups. Officer's silver cap badges to the 1st & 2nd Volunteer Battalions. 2nd VB curtesy of one of the other Welsh collectors on the forum.

Kevin.

Two nice badges, going to have to get a similar one for the 3rd to complete the set (HP and cap badges).

Can't see a 3rd VB Welsh with all details on the scroll .

Some kind soul will want to donate that 3rd VB variation to me. If I recall correctly there’s a similar variant to the 2nd.

Going to be a tough call picking up an officer’s badge to the 3rd VB. These are the only ones I’ve ever seen to the 1st & 2nd, apart from those in the museum. It’s also rather strange that you don’t see Officer’s badges to the Jack battalion seeing how big they were.

Just added the 3rd Glamorgan ORs glengarry badge to the collection. Pretty poor condition when it arrived, but cleaned up and put with the other VB glengarries & also shown with the Victorian Officers & Edwardian ORs helmet plates.

Kevin lovely badges and a pleasure to see. It would seem you have committed the greatest sin of some on the forum of bringing a very poor item back to parade ground condition
Well done you

David

Kevin was that just soap, hot water and elbow grease or something else?

Chris,
Soap & water would not have got anywhere with that, it was well seated corrosion. The badge has either been in the ground or in very wet conditions for sometime. Both rear lugs have gone & it looks as though something had been pushed thorough at bottom centre. Cleaned up with a mixture of liquid and paste rust removers agitated by nail brush & then a foaming silver polish applied by a soft toothbrush. Bent sections straitened out after leaving in hot water for a while.
Once cleaned I apply a micro crystalline wax to my badges which provides long term protection against tarnishing.
Kevin

What do you mean where’s the 2nd VB one gone? I thought you were supposed to find me one.
Down west atm, I’ll check how many lugs on the 1st when I get back tomorrow.
