Default German veteran's badge

Hi, again -

Another museum mystery. I gather that this is a veteran's association badge, however, beyond the literal translation which is "Military club (or maybe association) Dornum and vicinity for 25 year membership" it's really not clear what it represents. Is it a simple anniversary badge, one for a specific unit or a specific event? The maker information on reverse reads Vaterländische Fahnenfabrik CÖLN A / RH. From what I can tell, Cöln appears to be the spelling for Köln prior to about 1900, so, whether it was made before then or if it's just an old habit, who knows?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

In my opinion the text is translated rather correct. This was given to a member that was a member for 25 years.

I am not sure when the change in spelling from c to k (a general one, not only in place names like Cöln and Cassel) took place. But I assume that e.g. the name of a company, that was officially registered, could not be changed from one day to another.

The backplates appear to be for different manufacturers/suppliers as photos show ones for other cities etc.

The CÖLN spelling seems to have been the company's original registration mark and they may have used the same "makers mark" long after the spelling changed.

The badge shown by badger306 is only for the membership in the Prussian County Veterans Association.
The jubilee awards for 25 and 50 years have upon an enameled ( not laquered) black/white eagle-shield a further attribute with the number of years and the relief of the Kyffhaeuser-monument and fringes of embossed, silver-plated or chrome-plated sheet metal . Here is mine to compare ....

See also here, sorry, only in german:

https://www.ehrenzeichen-orden.de/we...re-2-form.html

The spelling of Köln changed at least in 1919:

"At the request of Josef Neven DuMont, the Köln city administration decided on December 24, 1897 to use the uniform spelling of Köln.[4][5] On October 30, 1900, this attempt by the city was rejected by the district president of Köln, Hugo Samuel von Richthofen.[6] A lawsuit by the city of Köln was dismissed on November 29, 1901, and the spelling Cöln was also made mandatory for the city administration.

After the First World War and the proclamation of the Weimar Republic, the city administration reintroduced the spelling Köln on January 30, 1919, which was made universally valid by decree of the Prussian state government on April 10, 1919.[7]"

Did some digging and turned up a history on the organizations which might be associated with the badge:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutscher_Kriegerbund

Added to Mike and Markus' examples, noticed that among more than twenty samples found on the web, all have Preußischer Landes-Kriegerverband on the front ribbon. This marking occurs whether a "simple" member badge or the 25/50 year versions. The back ribbon label varies and in some cases is blank. Also found an example which includes dates (1888 - 191?) on the rear ribbon (1913 and thus 25 years?):

https://joschs-sammlung.de/products/...liedsabzeichen

So, it would seem that my version is somewhat unique. Markus is correct about it being laquered, so maybe it's a 25 year "economy" badge. Another possibility, as this belongs to Dornum and vicinity, it may be a small local "club" badge, hence the economy.

As for Cöln versus Köln, you may very well be correct about about corporate identity, I was merely trying guess at a manufacture date. Among the other examples I found which showed the reverse, none had a Cöln or Köln mark.

Thank you for your input Markus , my "guesses" are usually based on a quick 'google' search so it is great to have more knowledgeable members adding information.
