This badge has had E-W loops added at a later date, the location of the original bottom loop can be seen quite clearly, as to the front of the badge and any other imperfections, I think this has probably been caused by being in the ground for X amount of years.

Whilst with any iconic badge that may or may not have been worn in action and buried you do have to take a gamble as to it's originality, for my money this badge is worthy of keeping.

I fully agree with Rob's opinion on this. A genuine badge, but it's provenance is open to question. Not impossible though.
