WHAT IS YOUR HOLY GRAIL

My holy grail is a Dublin Fusiliers Pith/FS helmet badge as shown attached. I missed this example from the Buywyze website several years ago.

it's hard to pick just one, so here are three that I would love to have in my collection. Maybe not as rare as some, but to me have been very elusive!

And, number 3


QA Nurses tippet badge

And another that I think will be very difficult - a QA, QA(R), QA(TA) or VAD fob watch that can be attributed to having been worn while in military service.


I'll keep looking, and hope I can find these I can afford!

Re the Aust Corps of Sigs badge, I volunteer at the sigs museum at Simpson Barracks which is closed till neat year. We have a small collection of badges and I have photos of them all. I will go through my photos for you, I know we have a blue enamel cap badge but I think that it has a scroll, there is also a pair of blue enamel collar dogs on an old Mess Dress uniform and I have photos of this but I think that also has a scroll.

I will look into it for you and let you know.

Hi Chris, again.

I have been through the photos of the museums badges and also my own collection of Aussie Sigs badges.

The large gilt and blue enamel hat badge at the museum has a scroll and there are no collars with it.

There is a black and purple mess dress jacket which has oval collars that are gilt and there is no scroll. This jacket would date from the 1930's but its owner is not recorded.

Personally I have a pair of blue enamel collars that have brass rather than gilt "Jimmys" and blue enamel scrolls, I also have a single collar in Gilt and blue enamel with a scroll.

However I also have a small oval badge that is brass and blue enamel but no scroll. This is 25mm high where as the blue collars are 30mm high. But this badge is mounted on what is best described ad a broach bar that is 55mm long.

I can send you photos but I will need your email address as I cant post to the forum so pm me if necessary.

Maybe the Drum Major may be able to help you on this one.

I think it's on a.few wish lists Mike,I think if you get one to sell you'll need some replacement hands as theyd be bitten off.

Unfortunately quite hard to find and I don't know what they cost at auction or a dealers' price as I have never seen them for sale with proper attribution as the 1915 version.

I think I bought both mine from Canadian ebay sellers when the were sold as standard badges.

I would love to find ANY of the cloth badges worn by the ACF/CCF Contingent at my old school "The Wheelwright Grammar School For Boys" at Dewsbury in West Yorkshire, They were affiliated to 4th Battalion the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. According to Waring's pamphlet they wore a KOYLI French Horn badge embroidered on a rifle green square as an arm badge. I've never seen or heard of a shoulder title so don't even know if they exist.
Last mention that I can find of the unit was in 1952 when it was referred to as a CCF.

I assume they wore a standard KOYLI cap badge. Any information and/or images would be more than welcome !
