Norfolk Regt variants
I picked up a couple of Norfolk Regt cap badges recently and on closer inspection discovered that they are all slightly different. Is there a logical explanation for this? I assume that it is due to different manufacturers dies but would really appreciate any information. Can one determine the makers from these differences? Only one has a makers stamp on the slider as per the attached. Grateful for any help / info / opinions.

Hi Dudley,
The second one is a fake I am afraid. There are quite a few variants of the Royal Norfolk cap badge. Off the top of my head I have at least eight not including the smaller size, anodised or Officers cap badges. Andrew |

Hullo Andrew
Many thanks for the info. it is appreciated. Will certainly get rid of the fake badge. Is there any particular tell tale sign to indicate that it is wrong? I do not want to get caught out again! My main collecting field is southern Africa so am still learning! Kind regards Dudley |

I think that the term coined was "motor bike helmet" or the like, referring to Britannia's chosen headdress on this modern fake. It has been brought up on the forum before, so it might be worth searching for the relevant thread(s)
