Help Wanted
I am putting together a collection of Gibraltar Regiment anodised aluminium cap/beret badges with different makers marks. I would be very grateful if someone could confirm whether J R Gaunt (London and/or Birmingham) manufactured this badge. I already have the following:-
Dowler, Birmingham Wm. Dowler, B'Ham Firmin, London London Badge & Button Co. Ltd. Toye, Kenning & Spencer Ltd. Also grateful if there are any other known makers not mentioned above. And finally if they do exist and you have spares for sale please PM me. Thank you and kind regards, Ian |

I've had a look, the spare I had is gone . So it must have been sold at some point.
But there's a few more to look for :- TKS Firmin , the fat font fairly modern Firmin London , no dot the very old one. Have a look on e..y ,the UK site, there's a few on there. |

Ian, my small set - but Im missing a few.
Note the backings are not contemporary to.the anodised badges (these come with the bronzed metal examples that are current) but that badge came with the cut down backing. Bess |

Hi Mike,
Thank you again. Was the spare you sold a J R Gaunt? I suppose that if the badge came into use in 1958 Gaunt must have made some as they seem to be the main manufacturer during that period. My search continues. Best regards, Ian |

Hi Bess,
Thank you for the photo. The cloth backing came into use when the regiment joined the Queen's Division and changed from dark blue to khaki. Some silver/gilt A/A badges were initially locally browned and worn on the beret with the cloth backing until the "new metal" bronze badges were received. A reliable source told me that they used Humbrol model paint! I was given one of these by an ex band drummer. By the way, they have still not received the new CRIII crown badges or helmet plates. Best regards, Ian |
