old royal. etc.
The button to which you refer is an other ranks' pattern pewter tunic button of the Royal Regiment of Artillery which was worn from about 1790 until the design changed in about 1802. Parkyn, in his book Shoulder Belt Plates and Buttons illustrates this button on p.57. It appears to be making good money on eBay but examples retaining their loop are scarce. Hope this helps. Fabulous old object it is then. Be interesting to see what a 200 year old artillery button finalises.
