apparently it was a small set of Household Division related badges produced for the Silver Jubilee, they are nice and cost a small fortune at the time (1977)! Best Regards Andy |

Just read through this interesting thread again, could you please clarify if this variant you purchased is considered to be genuine contemporary or spurious? Many thanks Rob

Still not sure about that type..... the "metric" thickness of the slider does not give me confidence in it.You also find them with varying sliders...... another negative aspect to its credibility.

Thank you, and I agree, I have never been too happy with this type either, but will keep it in the 'suspect' box for now 'til proven otherwise. With regards to the Embroidered Eagle thread I put up, I was looking at post #27 on this thread and '1st Tankie' posted an image of a 1RD Officers Dress Cap with an Emb. Eagle Cap badge that looks remarkably similar to mine? what do you think? Cheers Rob

My only thought against Gordon's judgment is that the eagle is facing the wrong way....... only seen on collars.

I'm totally confused by your comment post #27 Gordon posted images of an Officers No.1 Dress Cap with an embroidered Eagle Cap badge. The Eagle is facing to the right (as viewed) as with all (well nearly) 1RD eagle cap badges, so what are you referring to please? Rob

My mistake..... disregard my last (answered in haste). Here are a pair of Mess collar Eagles (on post 1903 mess kit). This is a dress collar... So, if the question is..... "Do you think my embroidered Eagle is a Cap eagle" .... I would answer, now, Yes..... its probably a cap eagle from the same period as Gordon's example. This is the last type of dress cap eagle before amalgamation.... (Photo does not do it justice) H= 40mm x W= 31mm

Post 3246 shows what appears to be the eagle cap badge and collars in use in WW1. |

Alan..... it does indeed..... that does appear to be an end of the War type of photo? Certainly the first post 1914 pic I have seen from WW1 with the eagle being worn. Its impossible to tell if its simply a BiM collar or a Gm small eagle in his cap though.
