Default 9th Machine Gun Company

Hi Gents,

I just had this (officers) 9th Machine Gun Company badge arrive and wanted to share an image here. This is the exact badge shown in 'A Source Of Price' (page 30). Any thoughts or opinions welcome.

Cheers, Roy.

Hi Rob,

Here are some more high res close-ups. A little tricky to get in there but I think these will do. If you want me to send you any full size images direct, just drop me a pm with your email.

Cheers, Roy.

Hi Roy,

The only similar picture in my copy of "A Source of Pride" (p.31) is the general service version without the "9" and it is shown worn by an OR. Do you have a copy of the 2013 republication with additional pictures? If that's the case I have to get my hands on a copy. I'd like to see what additional information has been added to describe this badge. It looks funky to me and not officers quality.

Cheers, Ian.

To add to Ian's point, there is no recorded officer's badge in Charlton's catalogue.

Hi Gents,

Many thanks for your input, always appreciated.

See a photograph attached showing page 30 of 'A Source Of Pride' (second printing 2013). The actual badge pictured is the one I have. There doesn't appear to be any addition text/information just that it says "Officer's cap badge of the 9th Canadian Machine Gun Company".

I have seen images of the OR's version and the '9' is clearly part of the main badge strike (same material and finish). This badge is different in that the '9' appears to be solid silver and carefully 'inset' into the space.

Ian, I too thought it looked a little 'funky' when I first got it but after having a 'very' close inspection under magnification it appears to be correct and original to the badge. Perhaps it's just my eyes but despite my best efforts I can't see any 'funny' business going on around where the '9' has been affixed. I can't say that I have seen any other recorded example of this badge.

Cheers, Roy.

Well heres my 9th OR's it all one piece.

That is one thing to look for. and Roys looks good from looking at his pics. the number looks good.

Even some of the officers badges look crude I can show you a pic of another version of a 4th MG Coy. Bare with me and dont druel and just look at the 4th MG Coy ! Note all others are crude looking officers cap badges.

Roy,

What are the MG badges the officer on the front cover of the book is wearing?

regards

Hi Simon,

I think that's the Boyle's Yukon Machine Gun. Lovely and super rare badge, certainly on my wants list (funds allowing of course).

Cheers, Roy.
