Simon,

So did I. Nice place - not sure about the value of the courses!

Dave.

Easingwold is still the government's Emergency Planning College.

Do we have any proof that these CAGS enamel badges existed, Jon? I'm sure, by logic, they should have done.

I failed to find an example for my lapel badge book. Given the number who must have been trained, there ought to be an example out there somewhere.

Of course, after the CAGS badge (if it really was issued), the next rarest badge is the CD Rescue Instructor badge.

There was not one in Jon's 1st edition of his Home Front badge bible, but since rectified in the second edition.

Last one of these I saw was about 5 years ago in a private collection. Then, one surfaced on Ebay in October that went for £175. Then the one pictured went last week from a different seller at a snip of just £75. Considering they are considerably rarer than the Auxunit OCA badge...

Close examination of the handful that have surfaced suggest they may well have been unissued because they are absolutely mint, without scratches or dented enamel. They may even be part of a small cache that has surfaced.

I suspect that at some stage, because they are not red enamel, have 'CD' and look a bit like the post-war CDC instructor's badges, one or two may well have ended up in 10p badge pots at fairs etc!
