Hi,
I collect WW2 British fighting knives but if I had to put my money on it I would say No. The bird looks funny to me. The quality of these daggers was really great and that bird doesn't look up to the standard I would expect. That is only my opinion from the pictures posted. Regards Irv |

must admit those were pretty much my thoughts the etching on the blade looks good , but I know they started knocking these things out soon after the war,

If it is an original WKC 2nd Model KM dagger then $1,500 possibly a little more at the right place.

When and where did he buy it? A lot depends on the vendor.

Gentlemen, this is "The British and Commonwealth Military Badge Forum" and an excellent forum for military badges.
There are other forums such as the link I provided for other branches of militaria collecting which are better placed that this forum for answering questions to do with German Naval Daggers. Uninformed opinions are in general very unhelpful and generally start with the phase "I am no expert but .... ". PY. |

I have a couple of daggers, SA ones, and tbh the quality is superb, the finish on this one does not look good enough and is more often encountered on fakes/replicas than on good ones (even late in the war quality of materials but never workmanship slipped...), the etching etc. also doesn't imho meet the standard, look at the placement of the mark, it doesn't sit right imho. I would try warrelics, they will give definitive, however it's not one i'd put my own money on if that's an idea of what I think.......
http://www.theoldbrigade.co.uk/viewp...=32860&phqu=10 Here's one I'm happier with, but tbh it's down to gut feeling often....

...but aren't nearly as unhelpful as uninformed opinions that don't start with the phrase "I am no expert but..."

Kreigsmarine dagger
Well, I'm not an expert on anything, but this chap is and he was very helpful when I asked for advice and verification on some scarce German items in my collection:-
Thomas Wittmann twittm350@aol.com Here's his website: www.wwiidaggers.com Have a look at his collection - absolutely outstanding and priceless. Before bothering him (he is a busy man, author and big-time dealer) I would suggest spending a good few hours reading through the descriptions and looking at the photos of similar items in his for sale / sold sections and noting similarities, or not, in the fine detail. If you then begin a question by saying you believe it has many features associated with that maker, i.e. this, that and the other, he will know you have tried to work it out before approaching him. An e-mail with a "thumbs-up" from Mr W is considered the Holy Grail by serious German collectors. Did you see what I did there - began by saying I'm not an expert but didn't offer my opinion Hope that helps, Kevin. |

I do not think anyone saying "I'm no expert but I can point you in the direction of one or two", is unhelpful. In fact, I think the opposite.
