Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry
There appear to be two main ‘manufacturers variants’ of the Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry frequently seen for sale on eBay.
On one variant the top scroll that reads DUKE OF and OWN is almost horizontal. This badge with horizontal scroll is the one illustrated in KK as KK1428 and is also the one shown in Cox (much maligned but he does get much right and the photos to size do help). On the other variant regularly seen, the top scroll dips downwards at a pronounced angle on either side of the rose, (see badge on right in first photo). There are a number of other striking differences between it and the former, but the dipping angle of the top scroll is the one difference that immediately catches the eye if scrolling badges. This is the badge shown in Gaylor and also illustrated in Doyle’s WWII book. This all wouldn’t be worth commenting on really, except that just to muddy the water for us collectors, the Marsh/Morigi knock off also has a steeply dipping scroll……………………….! Here are the two main variants that I see a lot. Have I been had with the one on the right? |

If it helps, here is a Woodward example, which is in keeping with the more horizontal-type scroll:

For the grammatical pedants there is also a version without the possessive apostrophe. I will take a photo of mine.

The badge on the right is an unmarked Firmin example. The thickly struck reverse is typical to this badge/maker.

These are the 2 that I have. The left one is missing the possessive apostrophe.

But not this badge without the apostrophe. Rounded spaghetti letter ends leads me to think - Mr Marsh fakery.
