First Hussars
Can someone put a time period on this First Hussars cap badge. I am thinking post WW1 but not sure.

That looks like one of the fake Gaunt plates.

Yes, my listing. I understood that there may be questions re whether this was the 1970's restrike and mentioned this in the listing as well as my belief that it was original due to the crisp strike, which is still my belief. Final value indicates that prospective buyers erred on the side of caution, understandable.

The plaque is 100% fake and significantly more recent, post early 2000s to present. The loops are the modern footed sort, certainly post 1970s manufacture.

Lord Strathcona's Horse. Crisp strike, front and rear.
Fake Gaunt plate. Purchased out of the UK. First Hussars with the fake Gaunt plate and unmarked 8th Princess Louise's New Brunswick Hussars (Mazeas C60) have also been coming out of the UK.

It was my understanding that badgeman2005, recently convicted of fakery, offered many of these badges, some with fake plates added. Unfortunately they now permeate the market and are often mistaken for authentic badges.
Another British ebay vendor recently listed almost all the badges that had been in badgeman2005 inventory. So, the spread of fakes continues.
