If you love guitars, Weller is pretty hard to beat. Check out the 'Casino' here...

If you think that was bad just look at what you would have got if you had left the link running:

Was hard to choose JT, could have been Hey Jude, Blackbird or my all time favourite of their earlier stuff Twist and Shout, love that scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Couldn't have coped with that earlier though, a bit er foggy headed.

And yes I did leave youtube running so have already further sampled the delights of 70's Finnish pop, could have done with a warning!

Is no one going to mention 'The Birdie Song' or even better 'Chirpie Chirpie Cheep Cheep' !???.......are they to be denied their rightful place in history?.......sorry, just could not resist it!

Seriously, we have a distinct lack of any reference to Fleetwood Mac?.......glass of wine, low lights and 'I need your love so bad' on the record deck. Parfait!!

Ah yes, the Establishment against bored youth. Mods & Rockers. From a continent away I would avidly follow the latest news on the clashes at Clacton, Brighton et al. Never could fathom how that judge coined the phrase "Sawdust Caesars". For the record, I never was a fan of the "Who" although I confess to years later going to see "Quadrophenia".

"Long live Rock 'n' Roll"! (At risk of opening a can of worms here).

The derivation of the term 'Sawdust Caesar' is hard to pinpoint but I have given the following quote from a 'Word reference forum:

'The quote is indeed used in Quadrophenia ......the phrase "Sawdust Caesar" seems to come from a reference to Mussolini - initially Mussolini was seen as the new Caesar by many Italians but after Italy's capitulation he was seen as a "Sawdust Caesar" - emperor of only the chipboard maps used to plan troop movements.'

However, the term seems to have been used for Mussolini even earlier - a George Seldes book published in 1935 was named "Sawdust Caesar: the Untold History of Mussolini and Fascism"
.

I do enjoy a bit of lightheartednes. Music can be sublime or it can be earthshattering! Since you've referred to a Scottish pop group I'll keep the ball rolling up north and entreat you to give due credit to a supersonic number by a supersonic singer (Andy Stewart and "Donald Where's Your Troosers")

Thanks for the that. I recall at the time, the judge's outburst was taken up by the main tabloids and the Telegraph sported a cartoon with reference to "Sawdust Caesars" and depicting Roman soldiers in chariots tearing up the road, an obvious reference to the contemporary Mods & Rockers on Scooters and bikes

Default And Now For Something Completely Different!

224 posts in seven days! Moderators, is this close to a record??

Anyway, if you've not seen this before, here's something for the Classical enthusiasts. Starts part way through, but it's brilliant!

Wow, the first single I bought! I may have it somewhere collecting dust. Think I bought their follow-up single - about the Battle of New Orleans?
