Unknown musician badge - Irish?
These badges were supposedly from a collector of Irish police insignia. I doubt that they are Irish Constabulary but does anyone have an opinion? No maker marks, solid brass or gilded metal.

Peter
I can only help by eliminating some options, they are not Irish Defence Force items nor are they Garda Siochana (Irish Police) band items. John |

Thanks John. Looks increasingly likely that these may not be police or military at all.

Don't give up yet Peter. When I collected the RIC I had one of those too. I can't remember if I ever got it pinned down! Have you inquired of the Ulster Museum/ Tom Wylie had amassed a great collection there.

It certainly is, this is the Army School of Music collar badge 1925 design. This design was in use from 1925 on service dress # 1. Hard to date this example exactly but the likely progression of metals was bronze, brass, staybrite thus this one anytime between the 1940's - 1970's. Worn in identical pairs. Full dress was introduced in 2003 and bullion collar badges are worn in that dress order. John Last edited by John Mulcahy; 19-11-08 at 11:16 AM. Reason: spelling correction. |

Thanks Eddie for the encouragement. I'll drop a note to Tom, but I thought he'd left the museum some years ago.

Quite probably. But they will still have the collection of badges. I can't be absolutely sure mine was identical but it was certainly similar.

The Royal Irish Constabulary Band
Resurrecting this old thread - which just shows how patient you have to be when researching some themes - i may have better confirmation of the musicians lyre badge as used by the RIC.
