Arm Mottos
Well finally got the 3 toothed Chadd Arm motto after a 5 year hunt Missed one on a trader site a few months back but have one now. Bottom row also shows the the 2 metal types for QRL The left hand one was worn by RP staff for a short time .The right hand one a few were struck and rejected ended up on toast racks never worn by the Regiment .

yes in Linaker and Dine they mention the use of a larger skull thought to be a sabretach skull perhaps.

Hey Mac
What a great find, I'd never heard of the Chadd with 3 rows of teeth. Thanks for sharing and the collection of Chadds is great. As you know I have 2 different large sized Deaths Heads and one on a Sabretache. Stephen, thanks for sharing your large Deaths Head, very nice. There are Many versions plus the special one for use on the Shabraque which is larger again and the Bones cross behind the Skull. Regards Phil. |

I have no knowledge of mottos but I noted that a couple of weeks ago at auction one of these sold along with a smaller arm motto. The same seller sold a black leather sabretache sans fittings seperately (I still have the details with images). |

Skulls
Leigh
The Larger skulls are just that Skulls as they have no Or Glory , but it is thought that the first Arm badges may have been from a Sabretache .As the dress regs mention skull. However its quiet a lump and was not popular with light Cav so the story goes. Both the Sabretache and Valais skulls have Bones under the skull The sabretache skull is a little thinner . The shabraque skull as Lancer 17 has pointed out has bones behind the skull its self. |
