Default Pembrokshire Yeomanry - I hope???

Hi All,

Well my track record is not too good at the moment is it. Hopefully though you are all going to give me the thumbs up for this one. Pembrokeshire Yeomandry (Fishguard), nice sweat/brazing hole behind the crown.

Is it genuine? The lugs confuse me though

Steve

Nothing wrong with that one. The w/m lower scroll is the older WW1 era pattern. The lugs would suggest an Edwardian era badge. Older badges often had lugs and these were usually in the centre as shown - 3 lugs at each end of the scrolls and the top are a sign of a fake.

This badge has been widely repro'ed but with a brass scroll and often the dumpy SRS style feathers. The regt wore a brass scroll post WW2 and the a/a version is with a gold a/a scroll.

With a huge sign of Relief - thank you very very much. I was starting to get frustrated there - but good news,

Thanks Al

This is my one with a slider - it has large circular sweat hole behind the crown.

The second is a fake with the fat dumpy feathers for comparison. These feathers are found on all the PoW feathers fakes - 3DG, Welsh, Welch, C&D Yeo etc. The sldier is short and ends at the bootom of the badge whereas the genuine ones tend to be longer.

Just a thought - how big is it in cms? Also am I right in thinking that the w.m feathers and scroll was struck in one piece with the crown overlaid? Or is it a 3 piece badge?
PM sent.
Alan

Steve,
Happy with that one.
Alan,
The only three part one I have is as below which I believe to be post war and by Firmin. When I get some time I will post my Pembs badges.

Kevin,

What a strange construction method? The large tabs to the rear completely fill the voids under the Ich Dien scrolls when viewed from the front and they appear to be completely uneccesary.

Keith,
I agree, the rear plate that you see would appear to be a strenghthening plate as it is in fact applied over the rear of the lower title scroll which is separate to the PoW plumes and motto. I have no idea why, but has obviously been professionally carried out at some time and effort.
Any suggestions?
Kevin

Hi 41st,
Decided I couldn't leave the forum it's to good and I missed the banter with you all.
I can't understand why this thread was not followed up we must have got side tracked with posting other badges.
The three part badge is certainly a strange construction which I have not come across before but it is the genuine article.
Hwyl.
