Copy I'm afraid despite the four lugs. Strengthening rods are found behind the lances on genuine Kings Crown versions (not all but it's a good sign) but not on the QVC. The quality of the rear stamping is the key here, deep and clear.

Genuine one below.

I was told by a dealer at the Detling Military 'Oddity' that during WW2 some troops from the 9th Lancers stationed in India had the badge made in a local bazaar out of silver bearing the QVC crown. He showed me an example which he bent very easily and said a lot of people overlook them as bad restrikes. I believe he mentioned that it was used as a pouch badge.

Can anyone add any creedence to this?

Cheers,

Luke

I suppose it's quite possible but why would they use a QVC to cast from rather than their current KC which surely one of them must have had??!

The problem with Spencer's badge is there are just too many of them about. I sold one recently when I replaced it with the one I posted above and I've seen plenty of others over the years many of them from the less reputable sellers.

Not sure Keith, suppose it could be something as simple as the officer in charge like the QVC more than the KC. I wish I'd have asked more questions but when you're there on the spot these things never come into your head.

Plus there were badges to be had and I didn't want to get beaten to anything!

I wonder how many of these little stories have been forgotten over the years, I suspect a lot of military history has gone to waste in our lifetime.

The one with the Gaunt sldier is almost certainly a copy as that mark is fake and seen on many copies. The style of slider on the other is modern.
