Posted on cadetdirect 'blog' page on January 9th.

Quote:
New images have been released of the redesigned British Army Crowned Cap Badges. The badges feature the new King's Crown (Tudor Crown) which is replacing the Queen’s Crown (St Edward’s Crown). The College of Arms, which designed the cyphers, was founded in 1484 and is responsible for creating and maintaining official registers of coats of arms and pedigrees.

I see the Royal Reg of Scotland isn't featured. I suppose they will retain the Scottish crown?

When the new cypher was introduced the College of Arms stated :
Quote:
The version of the cypher shown above, for use in Scotland, has been approved by Lord Lyon King of Arms. This features the same initials and number but is beneath a representation of the Crown of Scotland.

Sadly it looks like a broken Royal Ulster Rifles badge (Scroll), though I think we will all be sourcing them!

the Royal Regiment of Scotland retains the Scottish crown which CRIII uses for Scottish purposes.

I have read that the Ulster Defence Regiment cap badge was “designed” by General Sir Ian Freeland the G.O.C. Northern Ireland in 1970 by breaking off the scroll from a Royal Ulster Rifles cap badge.

Looking further it seems more likely that the UDR badge was NOT designed by General Freeland (late Royal Norfolk Regiment) as during the formation of the UDR:

"A working party was set up at Headquarters Northern Ireland (HQNI) chaired by Major General A.J. Dyball of the Royal Ulster Rifles, then the deputy director of operations in Northern Ireland."
