Cord Boss for ID, please
Would appreciate an ID for this cord boss and badge, please:
Boss 1.jpgBoss 2.jpg It came with a lot of London badges, and I originally thought it might be 6th CLR, but have since learned that the 'Cast Iron Sixth' wore red cord bosses. With thanks, Peter. Last edited by Peter J; 01-11-12 at 08:32 PM. Reason: Correction / added info |

Had the opportunity of speaking with Dixon Pickup, whilst at Aldershot this afternoon; he is of the opinion that this item is most likely to be an Indian Army (rifles regiment) boss.
Just thought members might be interested. PJ |

Hi Peter,
That places it pretty far from your main area of interest but having seen and handled the badge today it is one that if I were in your shoes I'd still be tempted to keep it as a curio. It is a very nice piece in my opinion and one of the nicest boss badges I have seen due to it's unusual and construction, of course the fact that it it to a Rifle regiment sways me in its favour. Nice to see you at Aldershot today mate. Regards Ry |

Dixon was telling me that early boss badges were all originally constructed of wire (as with my example) and that the non-wire bosses not only post-date the wire examples but were of course cheaper to produce. It's a nice badge, and one I am happy to have come by. Cheers, Peter. |

That's good to know Peter,
I shall keep a look out for similar examples in the future. The only similar boss I recall seeing may be one in (8th Foot) PB's collection (I may be mistaken, it may be fine cord as opposed to wire)! I assume that the wire on your example is silver? If so even more desireable! Do I take it that it's a "keeper"? Ry |

Yep, it's a 'keeper' though not sure if it is silver.
