Default West Riding (Guillotined?)

Dear All,

This is a nice enough badge; maker's mark, wear 'n' tear, patina etc. etc., but the top of the flag appears to have been sliced off.

What you can't see from the attached images, is that the edge along which the slice occurred bears all the same age characteristics as the rest of the badge, suggesting that the unfortunate decapitation may have happened during the manufacturing process.

I am wondering how common this might be, and whether anyone else has similar casualties in their collections, be they 'amputees' (as in this case), or any other kind of 'wounded in action' pieces.

With thanks,

Peter.
