Yorkshire & Scottish Title.....???

looks to be a combination of something Yorkshire & Scottish,in a title.?

Difficult to say without seeing it/knowing the size etc. However, I will "stick my head above the parapet" to get things going.

The thistle looks to me like the WW1 sign of the 9th (Scottish) Division, which is known to have been made of white metal and worn on a circular piece of dark blue cloth.

Could your backing be the remains of a 90 plus year old circular piece of dark blue cloth?

As to the white rose. Clearly, it has been added to the original badge. My first guess would be by members of a Yorkshire unit that served under 9th (Scottish) Division.

Was there such a unit? Does anyone have James to hand?

Badge is 30mm high ,with 2x 'slotted' flat metal lugs. The backing looks like a black silky matereial ,like the glengarry bows on some Scottish badges.

PS: of course the backing could be a later addition & not origional ! Is not quite as stiff as the Scottish bows material, in hind-sight.

Looks unofficial. The example I have has hex lugs.

You are probably right. I have been known to be wrong.

Here is the badge of 9th (Scottish) Division, but I suppose a thistle is a thistle.

That is a mons claps rose (one worn on just the ribbon as opposed to the bar).

The 9th Div sign in white metal is smaller, go to Buywyze and look in the militaria section about 7 or 8 pages in and you should see the difference.

The roses have always been association with the 2nd Battalion Scots Guards which is why I suggested that, the rose/rosette itself appears on first glance to be as issued with the 1914 Star but I dont remember it having lugs on it like that.

They didn't but after the war many taylors etc. did unnoficial add ons, like the eponymous 'slip-on' clasps, perhaps this was something produced along the same lines??? Or as you say something copied from, then utilised as a badge addition.

Just a stray thought. Manchester Scottish? They very nearly got off the ground. Looks like the earlier London Scottish Thistle with the rose added.
