Badge Backings
Dear All,
Apologies if this subject has been covered previously on the forum – tried to find one but have been unable to narrow it down to a definite answer… Can anyone please explain the ‘science’ of badge backings? What exactly do they denote, and why are specific colours associated with certain badges/regiments etc, and why do others have no backings? Does the shape of the backing have any relevance or is it simply dictated by the shape/outline of the badge it backs, and what about the type of fabric itself? Many thanks, Peter. |

There is no 'science" or method to badge backing that I know of.
Each case is essentially unique, some commerate former uniform facings, some commerate service with a particular Corps or Division in previous wars, some national identity etc. If interested in such things you you I recommend trying to get a copy of Badge Backings and Special Embellishments of the British Army Author: C. E Audax Paperback: 307 pages Publisher: Ulster Defence Regiment Benevolent Fund (July 1992) Language English ISBN-10: 0951434209 ISBN-13: 978-0951434208 John |
