I attach two badges, both of which I have listed as Middle East Land Forces, I would like to know whether they are 1st and 2nd patterns of the badge for the same formation, or for different organisations. If anyone knows the years each was in use, that would be also most useful, even if only approximately.
I appreciate any information anyone can give on them.

In April 1947 GHQ MELF requested ‘a gold camel passant on a halved shield, red over royal blue’ for all GHQ units and personnel. This design the application explained was inspired by GHQ MEF’s wartime vehicle marking. Approved and announced in Middle East General Order 9 of 2nd January 1948 the War Office insisted on printed badges and permission was refused for the purchase of embroidered badges from Britain for ten shillings a pair; officers simply bought similarly expensive signs made in Egypt. At the end of 1954 GHQ Middle East Land Force moved from Egypt to Cyprus and adopted a new sign as the camel design was no longer appropriate. It is believed that the new pattern sign was worn until 1961 when GHQ MELF moved to Aden.

Many thanks for the information , Mike, that's exactly what I need, so I am most grateful for the information you've given.
The variation of the camel on Signals colours on the arm of the ATS sleeve, is certainly a new one on me. major Waring's pamphlets don't record that one!!
