Default Irish Regiment Opinions Welcome

I do not actively collect Irish regiments but sometimes get them from the shoebox type lots and of course once I have them the collector/hoarder gene kicks in

Royal Irish don't like the colour of the QVC the lack of detail on the reverse the KC looks ok but don't know about the makers mark
IMG_20210103_172237.jpgIMG_20210103_172319.jpg

Dublin Fusiliers again only doubts about the cap pity someone cut the lugs off the collar then drilled the panel pin holes
IMG_20210103_172514.jpgIMG_20210103_172556.jpg

Leinster I think the caps look ok but I would welcome a second opinion
IMG_20210103_173221.jpgIMG_20210103_173341.jpg

Munster Again problems with the caps construction of the bimetal look of the reverse of the economy and no slider don't know enough about the glengarry except they are faked

Not sure about your QVC royal iris regiment and maybe one of the munsters but plenty of nice items.
Thanks for sharing

A superb lot again! I am not sure, but I believe the small POW plume badge with brooch fitting may actually be for the KGO Bengal Sappers and Miners, not Leinster.
Shame about the Dubs collar, but luckily they are actually not too hard to find if a replacement is desired.
Just noted the black RIR and it does not look too promising.

The QVC RIR and 1916 all GM issue RMF are fakes. Others are fine.

12,000 "all 1916 GM" badges" for the RMunsters were made in 1916.

The RIF and the RDFus never had 1916 badges!

(the only Irish badges I only collect are the Lpl Irish)

I am of the same opinion. Other than these two it’s quite a good “haul”.

Thank you all for your responses especially CB the word Superb is not something I have heard from my partner when the looking at badges.

Now for Inniskilling Fusiliers I have more of their badges possibly because they didn't disappear in 1922 Caps first, don't know why the second ones lugs appear to be brass wire

The next two I don't know enough about pipers badges to have an opinion, the economy don't like it on lugs

Once again "superb" lot for both the Skins and Devils Own, with the possible exception of the lugged brass economy Skins, if that is what it is.
Note that the lugs which you refer to as wire are, I believe, an early style, and are similar to the fur cap badge lugs. The piper's badge looks fine in my opinion.
Don't know what that Enniskillen badge is, but it has Indian style lugs and is cast.

I think that the larger Enniskillen castle badge is most probably an Indian made bandsman’s pouch badge. The regiment definitely wore such a badge, just as the RIF wore a Napoleonic Eagle on their pouches. Unfortunately I’ve never been able to find a published study of these badges, but all infantry line regiments seem to have worn them at various stages of their history. As well as being larger they generally had quite stout and slightly longer loops sufficient to pierce the thickness of the pouches flaps. Given the small production runs they must be comparatively rare from a statistical viewpoint. Lesser risk of restrikes too I should imagine.

Another possibility regarding the Enniskillen is a Indian mess waiter's badge. Most battalions seemed to have these in India, at least during the late 19th C., and they were unique designs.

Hi CB and Toby I see where you are coming from with the indian idea but for me most indian cast badges have very tapered lug cast in one piece, this badge although cast seems to have small squared off lug that seem to be soldered on looking much more like for example part of an officer's HP. An added problem is the possibility of it being part of an irish marching band plate.
