Default Mother's Cross with Operations Wing

This is in a local auction and it's something out of my wheelhouse. I've seen mother's crosses before and we have one in the family given to my grandmother after the loss of her son (my uncle Ivan). I've never seen a cross with an operations wing attached. Does anyone know if this would have been an official issue item or something done perhaps by the family?

That is not an official issue. The Operations wing was an official award, and not meant to be a medal hanger. It is likely a family modification.

I would tend to agree. Mind you, it's an attractive piece nonetheless. Any idea what something like this would be worth? I would assume it should be put back as 2 separate pieces.

All part of its history , leave as it is , the old wing has been modified by the family with a loop to hold the cross , to be worn with pride and no doubt sorrow...buy it ! Research it and enjoy it !!

Default Memorial cross and operations badge

Both are Canadian rather than British, my personal view would be to leave them as they are.

UPDATE! This was part of a lot in a local auction that closes tonight. Included were 3 campaign medals, 2 silver and one bronze star. I appreciate the input from you lot, and I was pretty sure that the op wing was a family addition but it's always nice to get another opinion. I tried a search to get idea of value but I couldn't find any examplars for the cross. Currently, the bid stands at $400. (Cdn), so too rich for this old pensioner.
