Long Range Desert Group
Hi All,
Can anybody enlighten me as to what 'LRDG lou' means, please? Also, is the badge linked to genuine, has this strike been faked if it is? https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...pictureid=7690 Thanks, Phil

Tantalising your timing co-insides with a similar badge selling on eBay recently for £26.04. It was not in my opinion a genuine WW2 badge, but I’m no expert.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/bfl/viewbids/...063bbbfffe14e7 I cannot comment on Shaun’s badge nor do I know what lou means. I’m sure the LRGD gurus will be along to confirm or allay. |

Hi Luke,
It was me that bid on that badge on ebay. I bid in the full knowledge that it is 99.99% likely fake but a repro is the best I will ever get to represent the LRDG. I had a look at the albums, found that example and thought it was very similar in its features, but not quite the same. The pictures are blurry which is also suspicious as his other listings are clear.

Courage mon ami! I’m sure we both will one day though a combo of eBay, persistence, luck and time.
This PPA of mine, whilst sadly broken, has received warm reviews. Grand total £5. Now if indeed it is a good one it would be rarer than an LRDG badge. So nil desparandum. Fingers crossed I’m wrong with your LRDG. |

I may be way off but could 'lou' simply be a shortened version of 'loupe' ?
A couple of his photos mention magnification ( LRDG 800% Front , LRDG 300% Front ) , so 'possibly' just an indication of how sharp/clear the image is ? .

LOU - could it mean leg on something ?? One leg is touching the border and,I believe, if an original, legs aren't supposed to touch the border ?

I beg to differ, this is wrong. No originals have touching leg to tail.

No shortage actually being offered as original, best avoided.

The tail appears to be touching because of the residue brasso/cleaning paste linking the leg. If you clean it properly and you will see it isn't attached...
