Group of Shooting Badges
A nice tidy grouping of shooting badges. As you can see with a connection to shooting competitions in 1908. Not sure if it is possible to narrow down who the owner may have been.
This came out of Minnesota and the person selling knew nothing more other than they were all in a frame when he found them. Interesting in that the Marksman/Instructor badge has the QVC. One might assume the recipient may have been an older NCO who had been awarded this badge earlier in his military career. Or they were using up old stocks prior to going to the newer crown style? Thanks for looking Jack

This link shows all the Team Members who took part in the Kolapore Cup so your Man must be listed under 1908...........not much help as there are quite a few I'm afraid.

Jack,
The QVC over crossed muskets was phased out c. 1898, some ten years earlier, so I would suggest that if it is connected to the wearer of the NRA badges then it was, as you say, was one of his old ones from that period. regards

1908 must have been a good year for him, making the hundred, representing England in the national, and GB in the Kolapore. At that time, most shooters were from the Volunteers. Regards Mark

What is the White Cross with Rose badge,... Could that help narrow down a regimental affiliation?
Thanks for all the input Jack

That is indeed a super group of bullion badges! The winner in that group is the early best shot badge with muskets. A seldom seen badge, especially in that condition.

Not only best shot, the same badge served to identify sergeants of best shooting company, worn on right sleeve.
The badge has a complicated history. |
