Loyal Suffolk Hussars 1795
Hi All,
received today - Loyal Suffolk Hussars Officers dated 1795. Is this a badge that has been missed as a mistake from the manufacturer or something else ? I have viewed the thread where a similar badge had been found while detecting, but there weren't many comments or further info as to how this badge may have been circulating. Does anyone have any information on the badge ? Many thanks in advance, Mark Last edited by mm1; 08-09-20 at 02:02 PM. Reason: wrong date |

With that pinned scroll arrangement looks a bit Birmingham Mint to me.

Cheers Mike,
few differences between the 2, yours looks unvoided under date and no sign of pins holding the scroll.. Mark |

Hi Mark ,
possibly your best bet would be to PM kingsley as he says in that thread that he once had the same badge. .

Correct that I had a 1795 badge many years ago. I presumed at the time that it was a manufacturer's mistake and still have no other explanation. I exchanged mine in the 1960s (for an Australian badge) with Arthur Miller, an old time Adelaide collector contemporary with Bob Gray, who had a very advanced collection of British badges. From memory the badge was a perfectly normal die strike, identical in detail to the standard 1793 type which I still have.

The lugs are very short for an Officer's cap badge.

Hi, I would welcome any further comments on this badge.I am at a bit of a crossroads with this one - a few comments raising concerns ie the pins to scrolls and the lugs. Nothing positive and it is difficult to compare to the ground dug badge. I have a few more days to consider return.
Any assistance in determining badge's authenticity would be most welcome, Cheers, mark |

Those lugs do look odd, hardly any stem at all. Badges like these were made by jewelers and perhaps such lugs are not unexpected; but....

Hi Griff,
please forgive my ignorance, but what would that show ? I will more than likely be returning the badge, so do not want to risk damaging it.. Cheers, Mark |
