Default Gardeners World… sort of.
Is there anyone on here who may have a gardening or plant hobby who can help me identify this bush please?

I’ve tried apps and Google image searches to no avail and don’t really fancy the hassle of joining another forum.

Whatever this plant is hornets, wasps, bees and butterflies love it. The former treats it as a buffet and carriers off the other 3 for dinner in addition to a drop of nectar.

Today I counted no less than 6 red admiral butterflies on it at once which on outskirts of London is probably some sort of record. All the more ironic since a butterfly bush next to it in full bloom was devoid of them.

It flowers very late summer, this year just a few days ago.

Privet? Thinking about it - do the photos show just the top oval leaves of ivy - looks like an ivy.

I have a garden full of the stuff, along with Paddy's Pride and other varieties. Sawed down a lot as strangling conifers, disintegrating brickwork etc but still loads of it, both tree variety and ground cover.

Really? The leaves didn’t look right to me. I thought the stuff next to it was ivy with the two-tone dark and light green leaves.

Very glad I didn’t join a gardeners forum! I’d have been laughed out of town.

Definitely Ivy, and as we gardeners might refer to it, Hedera Helix Hibernica.

You'd be surprised just how many insects and other wonders of Mother Nature enjoy said plant.

I’m the proud owner of both species of ivy it seems. With such biodiversity I may make Spring Watch next year

Hedera Helix - English Ivy

Hedera Hibernica - Irish Ivy

Closely related but not the same plant

The variegated leaf is just that, the variegated version of English Ivy
