Australian (?) Despatch Rider Patch?
Hi Folks,
See attached my latest Motorcycle Despatch Rider Patch. This piece originated out of Australia with a few other WWII items (which I don't have). So it is purported to be WWII Australian - Any thoughts? It's in unworn condition but has some old mothing around the edges. It's not one I have seen before but pleased to have it. Any thoughts, ideas or perspectives are welcome. Cheers, Roy

Hello Roy,
That badge is not of the material that the unofficial embroidered badges worn in Australia was commonly made of but... On 29 June 1943 6th Aust Tank Attack Battery issued an order that certain badges were unauthorised. Wearing of them was forbidden and they were required to remove them forthwith - included in the list was Badges, Despatch Rider. Only mention I've ever come across of them, nor have I seen any photos of them in wear. Regards, Keith |
