Tim,
Not a UDR badge and I don't believe it is Rangers or Royal Irish Regiment. It does look more like the Maid of Erin badge used by Cavalry regiments. Eddie |

Is it not for the Queens Royal Irish Hussars?
Either belt buckle badge or Cpl's Mess dress rank badge, I think. |

I agree with he other it appears to me to be the QRIH badge worn on belt and , I think, Pipers sporran.

Is it different to Hussars NCO's arm badge?

QRIH - special Cpl's arm badge
Tim,
I would agree with 'blackie' here. I have one of these too - anodised - and I have it identified (I believe) as a QRIH NCO'S 'special Cpls arm badge' for mess kit. See Linaker and Dine, page 92 (photo of Cpl McNeely in mess kit Munster 1991). Would fit for an anodised example - although L & D does not specifically say this badge is/was anodised and also states that it was sewn on. However I believe it should not be confused with the larger arm badge - which is pictured on page 91 (and is described as anodised). These ones do have purpose made holes to allow them to be sewn onto the arm. Incidentally, this badge came with a usual brass split pin, with one side cut away as the aperture is tiny and wouldn't allow for two wires - if that makes sense. Regards all Bess |

what are the dimensions please? I agree with others that this is not the full size NCO arm badge (there are design and size differences). The dimensions and fittings will help narrow down the exact use within the QRIH. John |

Thank you all for your ideas. The item is 39mm x 27mm and is identical to the one shown in post 1 of the earlier thread and looks like the Corporals Mess Dress badge on page 92 of Cavalry WOs and NCOs Arm Badges by Linaker & Dine.
Unfortunately it is now MIA and the search continues! Tim http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...t=qrih+sporran

QRIH Belt Buckle Badge.
A picture of the A/A badge on the brass belt plate. Other picture has the three patterns of belt buckle badge. The WM version on left, which was the 3rd pattern. 2nd pattern A/A badge in middle, and 1st pattern on right. Also the QRIH full size arm badge. The small WM badge was definitely worn by corporals as an arm badge with mess dress. Not seen it worn as a sporran badge, but the large arm badge has been used on the sporran.
