LRDG Fakes at Lockdales
Potential buyers beware Lockdales at Martlesham Suffolk are selling a collection of LRDG items. I have examined each lot, they are fakes and designed to deceive.
Sale 17th & 18th September Lot 235 Badges LRDG a pair of Lieut shoulder straps with LRDG brass sand locally produced on campaign cast titles affixed. Estimate: 140 - 150 GBP Lot 236 Badges LRDG a sand cast brass cap badge made on campaign, GVF Estimate: 140 - 150 GBP Lot 237 Badges LRDG an Egyptian Hallmarked Officers silver cap badge in an Egyptian Cairo Jewellers case, reverse numbered. Estimate: 470 - 480 GBP I have contacted the auctioneers about the fakes but my messages have been ignored. I fear the auctioneers are more concerned about their profit margin than the implications of being known as a clearing house for fakes... Keith

I have received the following reply from Lockdales and must commend their prompt action:
Hi Keith Thank you for your email, we have looked at all three lots listed, and we understand the points you have raised, after speaking with the vendor, the lots have been withdrawn. We have taken note of your entry on the badge forum and we understand that everyone is entitled to an opinion . However we feel that the last sentence is rather unfair as we have been running this auction for 20 years with very little trouble regarding lots . There are normally over 3000 lots per sale and we just can't verify everything ! Once again thank you for the info Regards James Sadler (Auction Manager)

Good on you and the auctioneers.
Nice to know that an individual can sometimes make a difference! You have probably saved someone wasting hundreds of pounds! Roger |

Lockdales
To be fair to the auctioneers ( I have no connection with them) they seem to have acted in an honest fashion and anyone who sells at auction that has not had an SF item presented to them that was 100% original can be in the minority of sellers.
popskipa has acted with the true spirit of the forum and I for one applaud his actions, but remember auctioneers are not necessarily experts on the subjects of SF badges. Rob |
