Royal Engineers Officers George V Headress
Hi not one for Hats too hard to show, and Wife goes "Ballistic" could not pass this up, have been after a good Officers Badge to King George V, for a while ( this will of course stay with the Hat ), and a lovely example, Sparkles! Like, what I think? (Red thing) is for a Slider to fit into, but most likely only to keep top raised? I don't know what it is so thoughts appreciated.
In reality Hat is in really good shape, Chin Strap is damaged by the badge probably, inner lining gone, just where a name may have been, can make out the last letters " H. B. H. " ?? As I know nothing on Officers or Headress in any form would this just be initials or would something have preceded these? Before I go messing with it how is best way to clean this? Gentle brush, or just gently hoover of debris. Any ideas on Owner if the Initials ring a bell " Jerry " and anything else about this which may seem relevant? What Rank Grade for example? Many thanks Billy |

very nice.
The rank is field grade officer, so major or lt colonel. The red thing is to raise or lower the crown at the front, a feature phased out by the late 1920's I think
