Nice indeed!

In December 1942 outfitters J& J Edwards of Lowestoft were offering gold wire naval versions like the one on the right of your photo for 11/6d as they were never an official issue.

The official red and black version cost one old penny, the red and black embroidered version 3/10d.

Oh, to be able to buy them at the equivalent rate today.
