2 UNKNOWN BADGES
I JUST PURCHASED A SMALL COLLECTION OF BRITISH MILITARY BADGES AND I CAN'T IDENTIFY 2 OF THEM. I HAVE CHECKED MULTIPLE RESOURCE BOOKS TO NO AVAIL. ATTACHED ARE IMAGES OF BOTH BADGES.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THESE BADGES ARE ? |

Hi,
Sorry I can't help you. I have a similar badge which hasn't yet been identified: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...t=Tinto+Garter Cheers, Tinto |

I may be misreading, but the wording on the first badge, is it "DUM AN OLD"?

I think that the first badge is Irish.

The BADGE IS A BIT WORN AND THE WORDING CAN BE DUN AN OIR
DUN AN OIR: This small spit of land near the tip of Dingle Peninsula witnessed a massacre of Italian and Spanish troops and Irish men at the hands of the English 1580. THAT IS THE ONLY REFERENCE I CAN FIND TO THE IRISH CONNOTATION. THANKS TO ALL FOR LOOKING INTO THIS. I'M DRIVEN TO FIGURE OUT BADGE |

G'day SwiftPCF
I would think that the first is Naval, it has a naval crown and an Albatross (or similar) and there is an old style Galleon in the middle. I feel that Ive seen a similar Albatross on a more modern naval badge, but navy is not my go so am looking for someone else to comment or confirm. Regards Phil. |
