Steve
Thanks for posting this
Certainly some great items worthy of photographic record. Great to see the context - good images of the badges would be of great assistance to us all

Default SO WHERE DO I STAND !

Hi Chaps
When I started this post I never said what my reply to my friend was :
I was and remain a collector even though I deal as a living the cape has history to it which is shown in ever badge that is stitched to it is show where the lady served through her service to the country you can clearly work out where she started on the adding of the badges to the Cape and work your way around it to where she ended up before coming home . These capes are rare with only a few examples that remain untouched and I would keep it as it is other than sercuring the lose badges back in place .
I would keep the item in one peace and not bow down to profit unlike a majority of badge dealers who would break this down into indervidual items despite the fact that there are badges on it I would like for myself most of which are listed in post 1 I fear for its future I know for now it's safe but we are only curators and at some point in its history up the road my friend will part with it and what happens to it then who knows ! Steve

PS What I should have added was we collectors have a duty to remind and keep our military history alive so we do not forget those who have done and do there duty in past wars and present conflicts that will and are building up that our forces will be needed to go a fight in to keep us safe here in the UK .

I think THIS! as with belts should be kept intact for in a few years they will be gone! The Cape is a beauty and seems like Vandalism to strip it!! So fair play to you Steve, may be your friend could understand the thoughts this thread is provoking if he sees it?
At some point there may be a theme in the Imperial War Museum dealing with this area and the cape would make an interesting exhibit! All the best billy

The construction date has to be a little later than 1948. If I see the badges correctly there is a Commonwealth Korean patch, and a 27th Cdn Inf Bde patch, both of which were not available until the early 1950's.

On re-examination, I also see a Royal Canadian Army / Medical Corps and Royal Canadian Army / Service Corps titles, both of which were not authorized / procured until 1949-50.

Thanks Steve. There are other Cdn badges on there that would suggest later service than 1948. Looking forward to your thread on this cape.
