It's an odd one isnt it I thought it might have been when a school was opened and that's what the year related to

Hello, I can help with the button ID - they were part of the uniform provided for boys at Allan's School in Stirling, Scotland. The school (originally termed a "Hospital") was provided with a mortification (endowment) by a wealthy local man called John Allan in 1724, hence the name and the date on the button. The school is still extant, though now incorporated into the local educational authority as a primary school. Hope useful/interesting!
