Default Numbered artillery buttons

Wondered what members feelings were on these. Norman Litchfield had a 3 above three cannons and a 2 under a crowned strap. At that time I don't think he had the connection of the strap and cannon belonging to the same unit but I think each unit had a strap and the three cannon design with their numbering above and below. Norman said that the 3 above three canon could have been an artillery battalion but also HEIC but said the 2 under strap was a battalion of royal artillery. I'm still not certain as finds of these are very rare how many numbers exist.
