WW 1 Artillery Collars?
Can anyone tell me what the general collar badge was for Canadian Artillery units (ie that worn on the service tunics). I have read that it was a maple leaf but also a simple flaming grenade ( with or without Canada scroll underneath?).
I am aware some of the numbered overseas batteries had their own badges but what was the general / normal badge? Many thanks in advance. TRT |

Correct. The GS maple leaf badge was worn, as was the small grenade collar. In my understanding the CFA batteries collars did not have any scroll beneath the grenade.
Your query raises another question. Which way were the grenade collars oriented? I have collars with north south lug orientation (up down) and east west orientation (the grenade would be worn on its side). Is there any explanation or dress regulation about the orientation? The "general issue" artillery badge, without the battery number or unit designation, was the standard field gun badge, except the badge had CANADA in place of UBIQUE in the upper banner. |

Bill,
Many thanks. The grenade then would be the same as a Engineers type? Regards TT |

The artillery grenade should have 7 flames and the engineers, 9 flames.
