VRI Cypher Pouch badge for The Royal Canadian Regiment
Gentlemen,
Although I posted this on Facebook I realize there are many experts here who do not use social media. For those unaware I'm currently working on a book of RCR badges and accoutrements from 1883 to present. I've been conducting research for over a year and the more I dig the more questions surface, as is to be expected. I was re-reading the 1894 G.O. 35 regarding RCR accoutrements. I had always thought the sabretache and pouch badge was the same as the RCD, yet their's is described as 2 1/4 inches tall and 3 1/4 inches wide. Specific to The RCR it reads: "Pouch Ornament for Officers: Gilt, the Royal and Imperial cypher (V.R.I.) surmounted by the Imperial Crown; dimensions from top of crest to bottom of ornament, 2 1/4 inches; extreme horizontal width, 2 inches." Does anyone have an image of the one measuring 2 1/4 X 2 or was it possibly a mistake in the regulations? My further theory is that no sabretache badge was authorized for The RCR as the G.O. specifies "Pouch and Sabretache ornament" for The RCD and only "pouch ornament" for The RCR. Any thoughts, opinions, or sources are more than welcome! Thanks |
