Ok Mike. If I understand what you wrote, you have looked at the back of the badge, but without taking it off the cap? There is no maker mark that you can see?

Yes that is correct......

Many years ago I got a cap and tried to take the badge off to clean it and in doing so I broke off one of the lugs, it must have been weak in the first place, at least that is what I tell myself..... Since then I leave them alone.....

Default RCMP items

Mike

I thought so frm the picture you posted.

FYI, the buckle should be on the left side of the hat when worn with the end of the belt that goes through the buckle pointing to the back.

I will make some inquiries with some of my contacts about the stain for you. I see from the pictures you have posted that there are double straps to keep it secured on the head. They are issued with one. The second strap is added and when worn right makes it very secure on the head, especially in high winds or riding a horse.

Default Stain

Mike

I got in touch with a serving member of the RCMP who was a drill Cpl in in Regina. Besides drill they are also responsible for deportment and instruct members on taking care of their kit. Short of him seeing it, his advice was to take it to a country western store that sells hats. They would probably have a contact to have it cleaned.

FYI Modern versions of the wedge are often still seen in use by the RCMP Association for wear with the scarlet blazer on parade.

Default Wedge Cap

The wedge cap is used by the RCMP Veterans but not by serving members.

I agree that it is worn by veterans but not this style.....

The Drab Field Service Cap was worn between 1940 and 1942/43 by 1st Provost Company in England during WW2...... According to the book Uniforms of the Canadian Mounted Police by James Boulton......
