Default Calgary Tank Regiment

The Calgary Tank Regiment was one of the few Canadian WW2 regiments to have anything superimposed over the crown. The CTR had a sunburst over the crown on their cap badge until they changed to the Kings Own Calgary Regiment.

The stories I have heard is that the King who approves all Commonwealth military heraldry did not like anything over the crown so that is why the sunburst did not carry over to the post war cap badge. Is this just one of those stories or can anyone confirm this.

This was in 1946, thus I assume it was the king and not the queen at that time who had to approve.
I have read the same story, but in a more neutral form not mentioning the king directly, that the regiment was told that
something above the crown would not be allowed (not explaining why it was there already for more then thirty years).

And there exists a KC version of the badge without the sunburst.

Probably not something the King would have been bothered with as it is a simple heraldic issue and should have been handled at that time by the College of Arms in London.
