The Authentic Cap Badges of The British Army In Heavy Metal
Chaps,
I have just been sent some information on a collection of badges (date unknown) for collectors. The advertisment was titled The Authentic Cap Badges of The British Army In Heavy Metal and they were sold for GBP14.95 for two badges a month. I have images of the two page advert from the Soldier magazine but low resolution. Can anyone give more details? Note, this does not appear to be the Birmingham Mint production of badges but seems to be another source of unofficial 'New-Metal' pieces. Items included are RLC, Queen's Own Gurkha Transport Regt, Adjutant General's Corp etc. Regards, Chris Last edited by hagwalther; 19-02-19 at 08:18 PM. |

Hi Marc,
Unfortunately not - I just have two images from a chap in Ireland re: researching Royal Irish Rangers - he send it to me as a matter of interest. Seems post 1993 though. Regards, Chris |

Various flyers. There were I think four editions of the sets issued between 1990 and 1994. The third and fourth sets included 12 of the 1992 "options for change" new badges. The final fourth set was issued to complete two frames, see the fifth and sixth flyers below.

Here are 88 badges from the first set in my frame. The set was accompanied by a book written by John Gaylor.
The Regimental Cap Badge Collection - see the flyers above. I acquired a complete set of these badges. Most in their original serial numbered packets. The badges are all made in metal (not anodised aluminium) and are a mix with some sliders maker marked "AMMO UK" and others "FIRMIN LONDON" in small font. Some badges have lugs instead of sliders e.g. 4/7DG, DWR, STAFFORDS, ACC, RAMC, RE. Some badges have narrower than usual unmarked sliders. Previously posted by me in 2011 in my album https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...id=1071&page=5 Tim

Chris,
The first issue set was from c1990 and which I have shown framed in post 8 is essentially as per the "all the signs of a good career" poster with a couple of additions like the Royal Marines, Royal Air Force and United Nations. The badges are not "new metal" but traditional gilding metal / white metal / bimetal etc. The first and I believe second issue sets did not include the "options for change" badges. I do not have the third issue set which did include an additional twelve post 1992 "options for change" badges so do not know if they were produced in "new metal". The fourth set was issued with two frames to show "the lost regiments". Tim

Reminds me of the half sized plastic ones you used to get in garages with your fuel in the 1970's.
