Service in Gibralter wasn't covered by a Star but was covered 3rd September 1939 - 8th May 1945 by the Defence Medal, being classified as a non-operational area but being subjected to or closely threatened by enemy air attack.

The last medal is the Territorial Efficiency medal, is this a decoration that allows you to have the letters "T.D." after your name?

Rob, the Territorial Efficiency Medal was replaced by the Efficiency Medal in 1930. The letters TD stand for Territorial Decoration and only applied to officers. Your man must have spent time in the ranks pre-war.

The Territorial Efficiency Medal was awarded to W.O's N.C.O.'s and men of the T.A. The medal was awarded to Officers and O.R.'s who were serving on the active list as of that force on 2nd Sept 1939, and completed 12 years service, whether wholly in the ranks or partly as an Emergency Commissioned Officer. War service counted as double. The Efficiency Decoration entitles an Officer to use T.D. after his name and was awarded after 12 years efficient Commissioned service on the active list of the T.A. info taken from Ribbons and Medals by Capt H Taprell Dorling DSO, R.N.
Tim.

Thanks for the replies, but I have to admit I'm still not getting it.

I found this info in Taylors "The Devons", some of them have DSOs and MCs so I can probably discount them, a couple are described as "RA" Royal Artillery Officers, but there are also a few which say "TD", is that the last ribbon on this uniform or can I discount them too? This Officer could also be from after this list.

The last ribbon is that of the Efficiency Medal. The ribbon of the Territorial Decoration/Efficiency Decoration is dark green with a central yellow stripe. The TD/ED allows the use of the post nominal letters TD. It was only awarded to officers.

Yep - definitely some strange ones - my wife's grandfather got his Defence Medal for his time in Iraq...
