An Australian maker: the only one?
Years ago I saw a Boer War QVC general service button made by Shierlaw Adelaide, possibly the only Australian maker and no doubt very rare. I have not read all the long lists of makers posted here, apologies if it is already listed.

Hi T
Suckling large GS buttons are relatively common, but I would like to know if they made smaller ones too? Is that one painted or coated with something on the front? Rob |

Another maker not listed above. Lion Works Ltd. Birmingham. Probably related to Lion. Birmingham, which was listed.

The lists in this thread are well out of date, have a look at my album, there are some marked Lion in there.

Here's a new one to me, a 13mm "cap" sized button with a one piece pressed reverse, could it be a WW1 economy?

Why that difference? One with the lion and the other without...is just a design question...or there is a reason for that? Thank you!

The Lion atop the Crown is interesting.
The Victorian General Service button standardised in 1872 didn't have the top Lion. With the death of Queen Victoria and the change to the "Kings" Crown the uses of the design hadn't changed so why was a Lion added? But I have a few Medium Victorian Officers Quality buttons with the lion, maybe they had some other Royal purpose? And there are other ranks WM KC buttons of all sizes with the crossed swords back mark without the Lion, maybe they date from 1902 before the design change? Rob |

So crown without lion it would be an early KC button, right?

Some of mine are still attached to a bit of uniform described previously as Liverpool Scottish, I'm guessing thet could be pre 1908 VF?
