Unknown Livery button.
I have searched on line and through several volumes of Burke's Peerage and have been unable to trace this coat of arms. I cannot find a family connection to the motto, Deus est super domus. (God is a wonderful home). I can find only one family with a running horse as a crest, the Colt family, and this is not their coat of arms. I have now run out of ideas.
Can anyone please identify who wore this button? |

Fairbairn's Crests gives the motto as being used by the Straker family [Durham] & their crest is a horse at full speed.

David,
thank you for your help, it is appreciated. I have found a Captain John Coppin Straker in Kelly's Handbook 1886. His residence is listed as Stagshaw House, Corbridge-on-Tyne. He was a J.P. and Deputy Lieutenant as well as a Captain in the Northumberland Hussars, so I am pleased that there is a military connection, even if it isn't a military button. Simon. |
